Update 8/29 2:23pm: West U folks - Lakewood Church is opening as a shelter. They need supplies and volunteers. Easily accessible by taking Edloe across 59.

Update 8/28 1:30pm: Transit buses and ATVs on Highway 6 are taking survivors to the George R Brown Convention Center and the NRG Stadium. If you have a group that needs to be taken to a shelter you are asked to call 713-426-9404.

If you're in Houston, on the Gulf Coast or in one of the cities inland that's experiencing massive flooding we hope you and your loved ones are safe and healthy. As Harvey continues to impact Houston community, resources like food and shelter are more important than ever. As a member of Houston's community, Fig has assembled a list of resources and shelters in the Houston area we have called, know are open and taking people.

If you or someone you know needs help, please call United Way's 2-1-1 line. 2-1-1 is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

To find a shelter, please visit American Red Cross for a listing of current open shelters.

Residents who need to take shelter are encouraged to bring the following items:

  • Prescription/Emergency medication
  • Medical equipment, i.e. Oxygen tanks, wheelchairs
  • Extra clothing
  • Pillows, blankets, sleeping bags
  • Flashlights and extra batteries
  • Baby food, formula, diapers
  • Snacks
  • Pets WITH carriers, as well as leashes, food, food bowls
  • Important paperwork
